Join Us for a Culturally, Historically, and Politically Relevant Visit of Haiti, with Afrocentric Scholars,

Dr. Molefi Kete Asante & Dr. Ama Mazama,

Leaders of AI.

We will tour in Haiti and its main sites of Afrocentric interest: We will visit Port-au-Prince, the Statue of the Unknown Maroon, Mupanah, Fort Saint-Jacques & Kenscoff, the 365 Door Palace, the Lakou Soukri, Souvnans, and Badjio on our way to Gonaives where will visit and pour a libation at the Place de l’Indépendence (Independence Square). We will also, and most certainly travel to le Cap Haitien, where major and decisive historical events took place: we will thus visit la Place des Héros de l'Indépendence (Independence Heros Square) at Vertières, where the French enslavers were finally defeated on November 18, 1803; Bois Caiman, the site of the famous Vodou ceremony with Boukman andMarie Sainte Dedee Bazile; la Citadelle, the most monumental fort ever built in the Americas to defend Haiti’s independence; and le Palais Sans Souci, the beautiful royal palace built by King Christophe for the new African nobility. Our visit would not be complete without attending an authentic Vodou ceremony, for it is Vodou which helped Africans put an end to their ignominious enslavement. Thus, we will attend a Vodou ceremony in Jacmel, known as the artistic capital of Haiti. Along the way, we will visit different grassroots organizations, and stay at quaint hotels along the coast, which will allow us to also take full advantage of Haiti’s beautiful natural sites.

In addition, AI’s Two-Day Conference in Port-au-Prince Will Feature Prominent and Progressive Haitian and other African Intellectuals Who Will Share the Challenges and Victories of Africans in Haiti.
